APRIL 18, 2024 – AUSTIN – Charles “Chuck” Borst has been recognized amongst senior living leaders statewide as the recipient of LeadingAge Texas’ “Excellence in Leadership Award.” Every year, LeadingAge Texas shines a spotlight on extraordinary individuals committed to propelling aging services forward, embodying exceptional leadership, and championing advocacy. These prestigious accolades celebrate trailblazers like Borst who epitomize collective aspirations for a diverse base of aging Texans statewide.

Chuck Borst HeadshotBorst has worked in the senior living industry for most of his career. More than 16 years ago he expanded Westminster’s Health Care Center, now recognized every year by U.S. News & World Report as one of the most highly rated, well-run healthcare centers in the nation.  For over a decade he has served as executive director of Westminster, a continuing care residential community that also operates as a nonprofit. During his distinguished tenure he has implemented the innovative Person-Centered Care model to change the focus to the “person from the institution.” And as a member of the LeadingAge Texas Education Board he is introducing Person-Centered Care to other communities serving seniors.

Borst has also dedicated himself to industry causes including his efforts to raise more than $1 million for Alzheimer’s Texas. He serves as president of the Texas Cultural Change Coalition, a statewide organization he co-founded to protect the rights of 200,000 seniors receiving long-term care and disabilities support at 4,100 senior living communities. Through TXCCC he has gathered dozens of leaders from every corner of Texas to elevate Person-Centered Care, tapping into a huge network of age-focused nonprofits and organizations providing emotional and physical support to seniors from all walks of life.

“Chuck Borst’s exceptional leadership at Westminster embodies the essence of our Excellence in Leadership Award criteria. His unwavering commitment to personal and professional development, along with his capacity to foster harmonious relationships and inspire others, sets a remarkable standard for leadership in our member communities,” said George Linial, President/CEO, LeadingAge Texas.

“I am humbled and honored to receive this prestigious award that celebrates the commitment I share with other leaders and everyone working in this industry to provide better lives to seniors across Texas.  I am proud of all that our community has accomplished together, and I am so proud to have the opportunity and privilege to lead Westminster and the Texas Culture Change Coalition,” said Borst.

Westminster’s recent-past board chair, Paul Hilgers, said “Chuck is an excellent operational manager with a strong background in healthcare along with fiscal and human resource management. It is his dedication to excellence and his vision of Person-Centered Care that elevates him to one of senior living’s most gifted leaders.  His ability to transfer his vision into the culture of a workforce of 350 associates is a reflection of the trust and respect his colleagues have for him. The Board of Westminster is very proud to have Chuck Borst leading the care and services for our 600 residents.  We are also proud of the leadership role he has accepted with the LeadingAge agenda in our state.  He is truly deserving of this recognition.”

LeadingAge Texas will honor the 2024 winners during the 2024 Annual Conference & Solutions EXPO, May 20-22 at Kalahari Resorts Texas in Round Rock.
