The Westminster CARES Foundation

The Westminster CARES Foundation provides grants, education, consulting, equipment, and other resources that foster social connections, promote independence, and create supportive communities serving seniors and the disabled. The Foundation prioritizes projects that promote Texas Culture Change initiatives, quality improvement programs, and the Westminster Person Centered Care model. CARES stands for Centered Around Resident Empowered Services, the model of care that allows residents to prioritize choices, dignity, and well-being.

Our Mission & Vision

Our mission is to advance effective solutions that benefit seniors and people living with disabilities across Texas. Our vision is that all Texas seniors and people with disabilities have access to a nurturing, purposeful, connected, and abundant life, and are treated with dignity and respect at all times.

What Makes the Westminster CARES Foundation Unique

The Westminster CARES Foundation is unique, especially when compared to typical senior living foundations in Texas, because it combines six uncommon elements into one model:

The Westminster CARES Foundation is not just a benevolent fund that provides financial assistance for our own residents. It is a true outward-looking foundation with the much broader mission of being a grant-provider for a variety of nonprofit partners in aging services across the entire state of Texas.

Westminster CARES is not just about funding, and it doesn’t just focus on what is needed. The Foundation goes further by investing in how care is delivered, acting as a strategic, system-level leader rather than just a funding source, and priorities are intentionally aligned to culture change in aging models and expansion of person-centered care models.

Rather than operating every program itself, Westminster CARES strategically brings together organizations and resources to maximize impact. This collaborative approach of working with nonprofit partners, advocacy organizations, and statewide initiatives directs resources where they can make the greatest difference while strengthening the broader network of aging and disability services across Texas.

Westminster residents and associates are active partners in this work. Through giving, volunteering, fundraising and long-standing community partnerships, they transform a shared commitment to service into meaningful impact.

The Foundation places clear emphasis on populations underrepresented in traditional aging services, including low-income seniors, the homebound, veterans, and adults with disabilities. By prioritizing these groups, Westminster CARES addresses meaningful gaps in equity and support within the broader aging services landscape.

The Foundation’s structure is intentionally designed to sustain and scale its impact over time. It is established as a 509 (a)(1), governed by a volunteer board, and built to direct donations to vetted programs and partners. Its budget is reviewed quarterly and approved annually. It operates more like a public charity rather than as an internal fundraising arm, representing a next-generation model for senior living philanthropy.

Shared Commitment

One cause especially close to Westminster’s heart is Alzheimer’s Texas. Since the mid-1980s, Westminster has raised over $2 million, including over $195,000 in 2025 alone.

The Westminster CARES Foundation also collaborates with organizations such as Texas Culture Change Coalition (TXCCC), LeadingAge Texas and other mission-driven groups that promote quality aging services and advocacy across the state. Though we work closely with these organizations, Westminster CARES is a separate nonprofit with independent governance.

Excellence in Community Impact Award

For nearly 60 years, Westminster has fostered a culture of generosity that extends far beyond our campus. Through resident leadership, associate support programs, charitable partnerships, and the Westminster Cares Foundation, our community is committed to making a meaningful impact throughout Central Texas.

Organizations We Support

The Westminster CARES Foundation serves organizations that address the following needs: 

  • Senior adults and the disabled who have limited financial resources or struggle to meet basic needs 
  • Senior adults facing food insecurity 
  • Homebound or socially isolated seniors who lack regular companionship or support 
  • Aging senior veterans who have served our country and now need our care 
  • Adults living with disabilities who are navigating daily challenges with limited assistance 
  • Senior adults in need of access to healthcare or safe, stable housing 

The Foundation is currently inviting organizations to submit grant applications. This process will allow the Board to ensure effective use of the Foundation’s resources.
